Comparative LCA: Use of Bio-solids

Boral Waurn Ponds Cement Plant, 2011

Lifecycles undertook a LCA of the use of bio solids from sewage treatment plants in cement production at Boral, including detailed modelling of emissions from bio-solids storage at Melbourne Waters’ Western Treatment plant. The study showed substantial benefits could be gained in terms of energy recovery from avoided fuels in cement kilns, reduced emissions from stockpiles bio solids and reduction in heavy metal emissions.
